In the final week here. This is the stage I call "word touch" which is where I go back through the finished manuscript and physically touch each word of the text as I read back through it. Word touch is the last chance to catch any missed words or bad punctuation or lazy typos (Three things I'm messy about). As an experiment (but mostly to make sure I've got enough time to do this) I kept track of how long the first round of word touch took (I do two rounds; the second began last night). Usually with my books I do a round of word touch in about 10 or 12 hours. This time it was 20 hours, so all told it should take me 40 hours of collected work to finish Wild Horse Shit. I turn the book in for layouts on Friday morning. Not sure I'm going to make that.
