About to hit the road in a few hours for book tour dates in Colorado and New Mexico.
This time I’m taking my thirteen year old god-son Jack with me. He’s been tabling book fairs since… well, I don’t know, I guess since he was in a cradle, but this is his first run of actual tour dates. I’m taking him out of school for it and we’re calling it work experience. His mom runs Bread & Roses Press so this is in his DNA.
ALSO: very happy to be headed back to California after that for SDZINEFEST (photos of that below as well as at the end of the post).
The fest is the reason I started coming back to San Diego on a regular basis and one of the main reasons I now consider it home again (or second home or whatever).
A few years ago Demetrius Antuña from the band Hauntu and I did what I called a “dark soundbath” to close the fest. That one remains a big life highlight. (See our record Voicemails from the Great Satan to hear what it was like. Photos of that below.)
This year Matty Terrones (from the band Neutral Shirt) and I are doing a similar thing to open the fest (see the flyer above for info). I’ll be reading a new piece of writing called HWY Night Music with noise improvisations from Matty. Big dark room. Lots of candles. Mats to lie down on if you want. Heavy, dark (and hopefully healing) vibe. Chef Lety who is an epic human being will be DJing.
As always I’ll be tabling both days of the fest alongside Justin Pearson and Becky DiGiglio at their Three One G table and Jessie Duke at the Bread & Roses Press table with cameos from the icons Reira Rose and Bran Black Moon and my god-sons Liam and Jack. Best kind of gang you could hope for. We’ve made it a tradition and I’m always happy to come home for that.
See you October 17th, 18th, and 19th, San Diego.
Viva San Diego.
